Distributing press releases can be an expensive business, but PressBox.co.uk offers a free basic service that is quick, easy to use and could potentially help your release find the audience it needs.

There are a couple of beneficial features to this site that make it worth your time. In particular we found the “how to write a press release” section short but helpful, particularly for customers who are a little uncertain on the things they ought to consider before they start typing out a press release. Filling in the forms is a doddle too, with a short, efficient structure that won’t trouble you with a series of log-ins and checks. To prevent spam messages Press Box will only allow you to post your release in up to 2 of their categories, which is perhaps a little limiting but a reasonable way of avoiding the same press release being found in unsuitable categories. Its writing and distribution services are fairly priced, though the site could benefit from a few more features, such as being able to include pictures, videos and web links in your press release.

The end result of writing a press release on PressBox is that you have a free but very basic service. Their A-list distribution list includes over 700 media professionals who have subscribed to receive press releases on particular topics and they also produce a media list particular to each assignment, but the distribution numbers aren’t massive. It might be worth checking out its client lists to see if they are appropriate to your release, particularly if you’re considering paying money for the distribution or writing services available.  

If you’re interested in reading press releases in your own field of interest then pressbox is a well organised (if slightly plain) site to use. What does set it aside from some of its competitors though, is an advanced search function, which allows you to hunt through all of its press posts based on a keyword search. You can also view the latest press releases based on the date of their release or request email updates, keeping you up to date with the most recent news.  

PressBox.co.uk is an efficient but basic press release distribution site. Its prices are fair, even allowing you to send out free press releases, and it has a few helpful tips dotted around its pages, but it could be overly simplistic for many and its media distribution capabilities are questionable. There’s not a lot to lose from its free services, though, and some of its more organised pages will help you to stay up to date with goings-on in your chosen categories.
