If you’re looking for a complete marketing service with professional advice and a number of important features to help you get the most out of your press releases then you may want to look no further than Cision.

Cision.com uses an award winning piece of software which they claim 95% of the top PR agencies also use. It’s quite the claim but the software on offer really is an accessible and constructive means of approaching the world of marketing. The PR software on offer allows you to engage with appropriate media gurus, get coverage by targeting your press releases, incorporate a large number of social media networks and journalists, measure and monitor your campaigns, and more. Combine this with a number of key features on the website, such as free webinars and permanent archiving, and you feel that your press releases are in very safe hands. The list of companies using the site is pretty impressive, too, which suggests that they’re happy with the service they have been receiving.

This site has a US focus, though it does operate on an international level. There are a number of pricing options available depending on what you are looking for and what you can afford, though for many small companies with a very low budget it may simply be out of their range. The Solo edition allows pretty basic access to services, the most important of which is probably access to bloggers and influential digital sources. The Team edition allows you to get detailed media profiles, make press releases (‘send stories’) and – importantly – monitor and analyse your results. It’s a much better service and can include 3 users, but of course you pay extra for the benefits. This package gives you access to more than 50,000 news sites and a press release Search Engine Optimisation service, attracting more attention to your releases than a basic package might. The Corporate edition of Cision has the added bonus of allowing you to monitor social and traditional media and allows 5 users to access its services, whilst the Agency edition (prices available only through request) includes an activity tracker and the ability to undertake unlimited projects. You can also gain various add-ons such as television and radio monitoring, or influencer reports.

The proficiency of Cision.com may well depend on the package you choose and whether or not you can afford it. Remember all of the prices stated are per month!  The site is generally well organised, though a lot depends on you downloading the software on offer, which is a bit of an annoyance if you don’t want to start downloading things without being sure you want to use the service. Signing up is relatively simple, though you are required to put in telephone and email details. There are a number of videos throughout the site, though they often act as more of a promotional tool for the services available on the site, as opposed to helping you to use the site. That said, there are a number of helpful videos and demos available on request.

Cision.com offers a superb, inclusive service, but you have to be willing to pay up for the privilege. This is potentially a site for established businesses with a healthy turnover and a decent budget for marketing and PR, rather than individuals and small businesses who are looking for cheap promotions and press releases.
